REUTERS/Marko Djurica WAR IN GAZA An aide to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel had accepted a framework deal for winding down the Gaza war now being advanced by US President Joe Biden, though he described it as flawed and in need of much more work. ELECTIONS AROUND THE WORLD Claudia Sheinbaum won a landslide victory to become Mexico's first female president, inheriting the project of her mentor and outgoing leader Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador whose popularity among the poor helped drive her triumph. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said there was no place for threats of violence or instability after last week's election cost his African National Congress party its majority for the first time. India's Election Commission said a record-breaking 642 million voters cast their ballots in the general election that concluded on June 1 and dismissed opposition concerns over how the votes would be counted. Britain's Conservatives will clearly define sex as biological in the Equality Act if they win an election on July 4 to end an "ambiguity" that is putting women and girls' safety at risk, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said. IN OTHER NEWS Georgia's parliamentary speaker signed into law a bill on "foreign agents" that has caused a political crisis in the South Caucasus country and drawn sharp criticism from its Western allies. South Korea plans to suspend a military agreement signed with North Korea in 2018 aimed at easing tensions after Seoul warned of a strong response to balloons launched by Pyongyang carrying trash to the South. Business & Markets Donald Trump became the first former president convicted of a felony, but Wall Street believes he still has a solid chance of winning the November election and is gaming out how a second term for the Republican candidate could impact markets. Asian factory activity expanded in May as manufacturers benefited from broadening global demand, private surveys showed, adding to hopes for sustained economic recovery in the region where China is showing early signs of a rebound. Global airlines raised their profit forecast for 2024 and projected industry wide revenues just shy of $1 trillion as a record number of travelers board flights.  Shares in Gamestop surged by over 90% in premarket trading on Monday, after a weekend Reddit post from stocks influencer Keith Gill, known as "Roaring Kitty," showed a $116 million bet on the gaming retailer. Joe Gebbia, the Tesla director who exited a board committee that made key decisions about the car maker's future, told Reuters that CEO Elon Musk had discussed purchasing a house from his start-up. Toyota and Mazda temporarily halted shipments or sales of some vehicles after Japan's transport ministry found irregularities in applications to certify their models. Advanced Micro Devices unveiled its latest artificial intelligence processors and detailed its plan to develop AI chips over the next two years in a bid to challenge industry leader Nvidia.
