REUTERS/Yves Herman Elections around the world The far-right National Rally party scored historic gains to win the first round of France's parliamentary election, but the final outcome will depend on days of alliance building before the run-off vote. Gabriel Stargardter joins the Reuters World News podcast to share what the next week of horse-trading will look like.  The winners of Britain's election - which looks set to end 14 years in power for the Conservative Party - will take on some of the biggest challenges faced by any new government since the end of World War Two. These graphics break them down. President Joe Biden's train-wreck debate with Donald Trump followed a series of decisions by his most senior advisers that critics now point to as wrong-headed. Top Democrats ruled out the possibility of replacing him as the Democratic nominee. The US Supreme Court's highly anticipated ruling on Trump's bid for immunity in a federal criminal case involving his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss is expected later today. Separately, his ally Steve Bannon is due to report to prison. In other news Hungary's nationalist government launches its presidency of the European Union with a Trump-like call to "Make Europe Great Again" after EU lawmakers questioned whether it should be allowed to take on the role. An online petition calling for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to be impeached experienced delays and disruptions due to the large number of people trying to sign it, the speaker of the parliament said, promising to fix the issue as soon as possible. The "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm Hurricane Beryl barreled across the Atlantic Ocean toward the Caribbean's Windward Islands, where it is expected to bring life-threatening winds and flash flooding, the US National Hurricane Center said. Business & Markets   Meta was charged by European Union antitrust regulators for failing to comply with landmark tech rules as they took aim at its newly introduced pay or consent advertising model.  Boeing agreed to buy back Spirit AeroSystems for $4.7 billion in stock, and Airbus moved to take on the supplier's loss-making Europe-focused activities in return for hundreds of millions of dollars of compensation in a rare coordinated move. In more aviation news, the US Justice Department will criminally charge Boeing with fraud over two fatal crashes and ask it to plead guilty or face a trial, two people familiar with the matter said. AstraZeneca said that the EU regulator has accepted a market authorization application for its COVID prevention drug, sipavibart, for an accelerated assessment. A late-stage trial showed the drug reduced the risk of infection in patients with weaker immunity. Pixar movie "Inside Out 2" has crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office in less than three weeks of release, reaching that level in the fastest time of any animated film in history. The robot dog is able to navigate its environment via cameras and sensors, including recognizing traffic light signals.
